Google Adds ‘Instructional’ Text to Pixel Launcher’s Search Box

The text accompanying a newly introduced UI element viz. an icon or a symbol is always helpful for users, but a search bar with a prominent Google logo need not explain what users should do with it, and yet, Google has done just the same.

According to a report from Android Police, some users are seeing ‘instructional text’ like “Search apps and web…” or “Search” in the pill-shaped search bar of the Pixel Launcher.

The subtle change signifies that Google truly cares about the convenience of smartphone users by adding an unsightly element to an otherwise simple and clean search box.
